July 1st 1916 was the first day of the battle of the Somme when the British army - Kitchener's volunteers - suffered 60,000 casualties on the first day. Four and a half months later the campaign came to a costly and inconclusive end. The stark Somme battlefields, cemeteries and memorials will forever bear witness to this huge loss of men, most of whom were volunteers.
This guided battlefield tour enables visitors to view the major sites in one day. Our "Over the Top Tours - Ypres battlefield tours" always includes the role of the Australians and World War 1, The Canadians and New Zealand in World War 1:
We also endeavour to meet individual personal requests to visit particular cemeteries where possible.
